FAQs
ODL stands for Open and Distance Learning Mode and OL is Online Learning Mode. As per University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020:
- “Open and Distance Learning Mode” means a mode of providing flexible learning opportunities by overcoming separation of teacher and learner using a variety of media, including print, electronic, online and occasional interactive face-to-face meetings with the learners or Learner Support Services to deliver teaching-learning experiences, including practical or work experiences.
- “Online Mode” means a mode of providing flexible learning opportunities by overcoming separation of teacher and learner using internet, e-Learning Materials and full-fledged programme delivery through the internet using technology assisted mechanism and resources.
In the Correspondence mode of education, the learners are deprived of the technological enhanced education benefits such as use of LMS (Learning Management System) for the interactive multimedia rich course contents, online discussion forums, expert lectures, webinars, online support services, self-assessment through sample quizzes etc. The learner in correspondence mode is fully dependent on Self Learning Material (available in hard copies). But in the case of Open & Distance Learning, the learners can have most of the advantages of on campus mode as well as off campus mode and yet she/he can plan their studies as per their own convenience and comfort. The ODL mode provides a balanced platform for self-paced learning, where course instructors can assist the learner through insights and valuable inputs via virtual interactions.
